group

The summer season is upon as all, and for many a Lakeland cheerleading athlete, that means that cheer camp is right around the corner. Cheer camp is a fun and educations summer activity that gives cheerleaders the perfect opportunity to hone their cheerleading skills during the summer, which is downtime for the cheer season.

This way, when they come back for the new cheer season, they’ll be geared up and raring to go. Many cheerleaders love cheer camp because it’s weeks away with their cheer friends, away from the stresses of school and the constant watch of their parents, with the added bonus of learning more awesome cheer stunts. Who wouldn’t love that?

Cheer camp is also the perfect time to practice your cheer skills, and perfect that move that you’ve been working on all season, but never had the time. It’s also a great way to meet cheerleaders from other districts, and widen your circle of cheerleading friends. It’s easy to see why many cheerleaders are so excited for cheer camp. However, fun should not be an excuse for recklessness. Here are some things to keep in mind in order to stay safe during cheer camp this summer.

Mind the summer heat

The summer heat is going to be intense, and if you aren’t careful, you can end up with a serious sunburn, or worse. Always stay hydrated in order to prevent serious health risks like heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and stay indoors or in the shade when the sun is at its peak. Take plenty of breaks and make sure that you aren’t pushing yourselves too much. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen with a high SPF level, it would be terrible to have to nurse a sunburn during your entire cheer camp stay.

Even though summer camp is a lot of fun, don’t forget to pay attention

While there are a lot of recreational and fun activities during cheer camp, don’t forget to pay attention and remember that you’re there to learn more about cheerleading. Don’t let your concentration wander off in case you miss a crucial part of the stunt demonstration. If you miss out on something important, you might end up executing the stunt incorrectly and injuring yourself.

Don’t wander off by yourself

Cheer camp is a great way to reconnect with nature and see the sights, especially if you’re near a locations where you’d love nothing more than to take a hike. It also affords the opportunity to practice in wide spaces without worrying about the lack of space. However, it’s important not to wander off by yourself. Always take some friends with you, and always let your Lakeland cheerleading camp counsellors and coaches know if you’re going off somewhere so that they’ll know where to go if something happens to you and your friends.
