Lakeland cheerleading

Many have asked us: what is the role of a cheerleader and why do I have to enroll my kid in a Lakeland cheerleading program? The problem is that there are a lot of misconceptions, no thanks to movies and internet memes. We see cheerleaders ditzy blondes with nothing better to do with their lives.

In fact, many cheerleaders, especially in college, are on an academic scholarships. On top of everything they have to do for their teams, they also have to maintain a certain percentage in school. The choice is between studying harder or getting out of the cheerleading team.

Most people, of course, choose the former. To know more about cheerleading, here are some of their roles today:

Crowd leader

Being a cheerleader means one thing–you have to lead the crowd into chanting the name of your team or any famed athlete in the school. You have to be able to motivate the crowd enough to support the team. You have to be the life of the party.

Spirit raisers

Not all games will go the way you want them to go. This means, your team won’t always win, so you have to still be able to raise positivity in the crowd. As a cheerleader, you need to have pride for yourself and your school, and spread this out to everyone in your community. You have to keep the energy all throughout the games, even those times you’re not winning. It is in cheerleaders where school spirit begins.

Ambassadors

Cheerleaders are usually the most popular students in school and thus, the whole community mostly know their names. They have to be friendly. They have to know facts about the school’s history and events. They have to be the truest representative of their schools.

Athletes

More than anything else, cheerleaders are athletes. They train hard to develop strength, stamina and endurance. They go to practive every day, so that they can execute their routines perfectly. During competitions, they stand proud, bearing the name of their schools, and fight relentlessly to get to the top. They are dedicated in improving their skills and bringing home glory and honor to their schools and communities.

Entertainers

During halftime, cheerleaders are the ones who think of ways to entertain the crowd, so they don’t leave the stadium. This is especially important when a timeout is taking too long or when the teams are losing sorely. Cheerleaders are vital part of the in-game entertainment, and they use their stunts, tumbles, jumps and dance to keep the crowd interested.
