Becoming a Camp Counselor at Lakeland Summer Camps

Becoming a camp counselor for Lakeland summer camps isn’t the first thing that young adults think of when they think about summer jobs. Admittedly, it is one of the more unorthodox summer jobs available out there. But when you think about it, it seems like a very interesting summer job that you can really be interested in. To help you make up your mind, here are some things to keep note of if you’re going to become a camp counselor.

Being a camp counselor is rewarding in so many ways, not just financially. You’ll learn how to improve your leadership and communications skills, which will benefit you greatly as you continue on with your professional life. Becoming a camp counselor also helps you become more adaptable to new situations, and gives you the opportunity to be more of a problem-solver, as you’ll be exposed to a number of new scenarios and situations every day that you may or may not be prepared for.

You’ll have a greater appreciation for your camp counselors as you learn the ways of navigating the problems of the kids that you’re in charge of. But at the end of the day, you’ll become a better person because of it.

Making the decision to become a camp counselor also allows you the chance to make friends that’ll stick with you no matter what. You’re out in the great outdoors trying to keep a bunch of kids entertained, working together in something that you all care about. This is a perfect recipe for a lifelong friendship that is bound to stand the test of time.

Don’t be too worried if you feel like you don’t know what you’re doing, the truth of the matter is, nobody really know exactly what they’re doing, which is what makes summer camp so great, for campers and counselors alike. While you may have a general itinerary for the summer to give some semblance of order, the thing is, anything can happen.

For example, you may be out on a hike, and end up encountering discovering a patch of poison ivy. Or you could be out on a camping trip, singing songs and roasting marshmallows, and find out that there’s a meteor shower that night. You can’t be prepared for everything, which keeps you on your toes, and makes the overall experience so great.

At the end of it all, when the experience is over, and you’re saying goodbye to the kids you spent so much time taking care of, you’ll find that despite all the mini heart attacks and stress they’ve given you, you’re going to miss them. And you’ll always cherish the memories that you made over the summer in Lakeland summer camps.
